oh, right, i have a blog

robin ordered me to update chumptastic a couple nights ago, and i obviously didn’t heed his advice. until now that is. i dunno why, but it’s been difficult to get motivated to post from home – perhaps it’s crazy slow connection, perhaps it’s the fact that i can only be online at certain times…i dunno. anyway, i decided to try to recap my week as best i can…in reverse chronological order.

today i met sofi in toronto in order to further expand my music collection. i’m sorta glad i don’t live nearer to rotate this or i’d be perpetually broke. too many good cds to choose from. i also had fun playing operation/trivial pursuit at the bishop and the belcher, and having my first bubble tea experience.

yesterday included a trip to pickering to visit kristi, to watch lord of the rings (finally), and to have my first taste of japan experience. oh, and i also saw half of back to the future 2 for the first time in a long time. it’s fun that both flea and elizabeth shue are in it. who knew?

friday…a trip to fabulous downtown peterborough with kristi and staci for lunch. we all ordered the hard to pronounce mexican dish called the “lunch combo”, and for some reason received just quesadillas. i guess i’m destined to never find out what a taquito or flauta is. the whole time we were downtown i was kicking myself for not having my camera. mullets abounded, of course, but i also saw a fantastic lassie flag (at a store called ‘flags, eh?’), not to mention an abandoned santa station being impinged upon by a mary kay stand. neither staci nor kristi would ask to sit on the mary kay woman’s knee.

now it gets a bit more difficult to remember what i did.

thursday…i ventured to my dad’s and watched brain candy for the first time in quite a while with my brothers. it’s pretty good, but definitely not what it could’ve been. after that, kristi came over to our house and we watched bottle rocket and exchanged gifts. she got me a monchichi doll, as well as some other stuff (i shan’t make a loot list, at least not in this posting).

of course, wednesday was christmas and it turned out pretty well. a visit to my dad’s in the morning (including watching the christmas classics high fidelity and star wars episode 1), followed by a gift exchange with my mom at night. fun times with lotsa turkey to be had.

no idea about christmas eve, but on the 23rd i went to andrea’s and looked like a dummy playing trivial pursuit (but hey, get this: the question of whose funeral in 1926 drew more than 100 thousand people in nyc came up both that night and today while playing in toronto. i knew it the second time – rudolph valentino if you care. oh, and as a further aside: i surprised sofi and myself by knowing which sport boasts the fastest travelling ball. if you know it, post in the comments.) after trivial pursuit i drove to millbrook to watch el scotto play hockey. it wasn’t the most stellar game i’ve seen, but the good guys tied it up with 2.5 seconds to play. pas mal.

anyway, that’s a good enough summary of my week i think. new years is approaching, and i hate new years: there’s too much pressure to have fun, it seems. i’d be content doing something low key with a few friends. i hope something falls into place.

so yeah, if anyone’s still reading this: happy?

merry christmas, and all that nonsense

hey look, it’s christmas eve. doing nothing in peterborough = posting nothing on chumptastic. so, my apologies for that.

shopping’s done, wrapping’s not quite there yet… and i can’t complain about sleeping til noon.

have a fantastic christmas, blahblahblah.

peterborough: the city that always sleeps

fantastic! i’m now in peterborough. let the christmas festivities begin.

last night marked my third time seeing by divine right in the past year. they’re always fantastic live, but they didn’t hit the stage til superlate, and the insane crowd distracted me from the band. regardless, it was still a good time. and that’s all the review i’m gonna give the show.

tonight was my first christmas dinner (of two). can’t go wrong with turkey.

“i’m less evil than him, so you should give me a million dollars”

well, i lost 3 hours of my life that i’ll never get back last night by watching that horrendous survivor finale. it was sort of satisfying though to see the jury express how much they hated both finalists. the porn star winner should have started cheering “default! default!” when he won, ’cause that’s really what it came down to.

i also got a few more fantastic christmas presents yesterday: robin gave me minority report on dvd (a movie i didn’t really have high expectations for, but which turned out to be excellent – so good in fact that i forgot it was tom cruise in the starring role by the end), and mitch gave me bottle rocket on dvd (another great movie that i didn’t even know was released on dvd – it’s essentially wes anderson and owen wilson’s trial run). anyway, i’m happy.

my officemate came into work this morning, even though it’s his day off, to give everyone little stockings full of candy. good deal.

and now on with my day.

yeah ok, so i’ve now posted 300 chumptastic messages on here. that’s about 295 too many.

you’ll also note that i finally got around to updating my “disturbing search keywords” section – weird shit that’s turned up in chumptastic’s referrer logs. i really hope that some of them can be attributed to robin flooding my logs again, but somehow i doubt it.

i do like the fact that searching google for i cant stop wearing tights yields chumptastic as the #1 result. i’m so proud.

memories are better than dreams

i had my first job interview in 10 years yesterday. think about that for a second: i’ve been working since i was 15 or so, but i haven’t actually been interviewed for any of those jobs since i was 17 or 18. that just occurred to me last night. how bizarre.

the interview itself went ok i think, but it’s a bit harder to judge than normal. i was interviewed by 3 people: a guy i’ve known for years that i ride into work on the bus with quite often, a professor i TAed for for a couple years (who, incidentally, told me he hadn’t seen me since i cut off my hair – i.e. 4 or 5 years ago), and another guy i’ve met a few times at meetings. there were no crazy stumping questions or anything, but i think it mostly just depends on the quality of the other applicants. i’m not a UNIX guru, and if someone who applies is, that lets me out. i’m unconcerned though.

oh, and wearing a tie to work typically elicits a number of questions. thankfully my officemate and manager had the day off…

other than that, my yesterday was pretty uneventful. cogeco has somehow managed to wreck my internet connection AGAIN, which made it almost impossible to post anything last night (not to mention writing emails). note that this explains why chumptastic may seem awful laggy – pictures taking longer to load than normal, etc. i’m sure they’ll fix it today and i’ll never have another problem.

oh, and i drove sofi to the bus station. she’s now in fabulous scarberia for the holidays. only 2 more days til i get to leave as well.

i wanna be like harry houdini, and be the one to make the great escape

what better way to start the day than by getting bitched at in a meeting?

in other news, i’ve been without a portable music player for a few weeks now (ever since i tried to get creative with my mp3 player). i decided i wanted music on sunday night as i was about to go out so i went looking for my ancient walkman, but instead i came across a portable cd player. i totally forgot i owned one – in fact, i don’t even know when i got it. mmmm, portable music.

oh, and as a bonus, i can use it to play my “brand new” (that’s brand new in curly fingers) kon kan cd, courtesy of sofi. note that harry houdini was my favouritest song in grade 7. nothing says christmas like 80s dance music.

sign up here to be MY nemesis

hey, know what’s NOT a good movie? that’s right, star trek nemesis. i’m confident that mitch and i ruined it for people around us by laughing constantly. which is too bad, ’cause i was sorta looking forward to it. if only the bad guy was remotelly interesting, and didn’t have such distracting teeth (not to mention lip scar). i was pretty tired this morning and i wasn’t sure i would make it through the movie, especially during the wedding scene at the beginning. plod plod plod.

oh, and wil wheaton’s part was limited to 5 seconds of non-speaking. poor wil.

the rest of my day? i don’t even know.

yay socially awkward!

yawn. again. and why didn’t anyone tell me it’s freezing out today? i spent a few minutes just trying to get my car door open this morning, not to mention digging it out from under the snow.

to conclude a most uneventful of weekends, i accompanied sofi to her staff christmas party last night. “how formal is it?” i asked. “not formal at all,” she replied. i beg to differ. it’s difficult to imagine two people fitting in less. even so, it was still a fun time. yay socially awkward!

oh, and i won the first jenga game i’ve played since i was about 10. pure skill.

this page reminded me of something i might’ve done with my friend tyler when i was growing up. it made me giggle. i now want to mail someone a ski.

and now i must find some sort of food in the hopes of waking up.

crap i want

i finally made my wishlist bigger. i took long enough that i’m guaranteed to not get anything i just added for christmas, but that’s because i’m a moron.
